Taekwondo is a Korean Martial Art and one of only 2 Martial Arts featured in the Olympics ( the other being Judo). Taekwondo translates into ” Foot, Fist Martial Art, or the art of kicking and punching. And while taekwondo definitely does teach the art of kicking and punching it also focuses strongly on the 5 tenets of Taekwondo: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit!
Classes begin at 6:00 with stretching and exercises and then we focus on the days theme. Monday is Forms Class ( or Poomsae ) and we focus on the Taeguek Forms in Taekwondo from beginner to the Black Belt forms. Wednesday is Self Defense Class and we focus on Hapkido. According to Wikipedia:, “It is a form of self-defense that employs joint locks, grappling, and throwing techniques similar to those of other martial arts, as well as kicks, punches, and other striking attacks.” Friday is Sparring Night where we practice Olympic Style Sparring using the techniques taught to us in class.
